All That Is Glorious Around Us

All That Is Glorious Around Us: Paintings from the Hudson River School, a hard cover volume written by art historian John Driscoll, features over 75 color plates and 140 pages of commentary on this important school of American painters, including Thomas Cole, John F. Kensett, Sanford Robinson Gifford, Frederic Church, Albert Bierstadt and Jasper Cropsey.

The Westmoreland Museum of American Art presented the exhibition of this artwork in 1997 and that exhibition continues to travel across the United States to this day. This book will take you -- with words and images -- to the landscapes of the Hudson River Valley and the Catskill Mountains which became the model for the romantic, idealized vision of the American landscape for which the Hudson River School of painters is known. The "glorious aspirations" of the new American democracy are shown through the artists' visions of the American landscape in this beautiful and informative book.
