Artists of the Commonwealth: Realism and Its Response in Pennsylvania Painting 1900-1950 is the title of the 72-page softcover catalog that accompanies the exhibition which was at The Westmoreland from February 26 through May 21, 2006. It was subsequently  at The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto, The Erie Art Museum, and The James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown.

In the essay that discusses the 38 artists and their works represented in this exhibition, author Betsy Fahlman writes that"...a range of important artists have been in, worked in, or spent significant amounts of time in the state, collectively creating a vibrant art culture." Their realism "assumed many variations in style and theme...The artists...create an expansive definition of Pennsylvania realist painting." Artist included are William Baziotes, Cecelia Beaux, Arthur Carles, Clarence Carter, Mary Cassatt, Fern Coppedge, Virginia Cuthbert, George Ericson, Daniel Garber, William Glackens, Aaron Harry Gorson, Johanna Hailman, Robert Henri, Roy Hilton, John Kane, Albert King, George Luks, Norwood MacGilvray, Violet Oakley, Malcolm Parcell, Maxfield Parrish, Horace Pippin, Hobson Pittman, Joseph Plavcan, Edward Redfield, Samuel Rosenberg, Walter Schofield, Charles Sheeler, Everett Shinn, John Sloan, Robert Spencer, Walter Stuempfig, Henry Ossawa Tanner, A.
